Nissan Sani 3.0 V6 M.K. 1

The Nissan Sani 3.0 v6 is really the rough mans car, the type of man who wakes up and combs his beard with a porcupine. The car is simple, crude but most off all indestructible, well fairly. Reason I say this is because the clutch failed on me as I was crossing a freeway intersection. The fluid leaked out of a broken seal. The engine has lost a lot of its power over the years and the front drive shafts need replacing. However this car isn’t next year’s model either and the rest of it seems indestructible. Read more

Chris’s take:
It’s not every day you get to meet Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond, and sadly, this also wasn’t one of those days for me.
Because I was right at the back doing the camera work. Whilst my colleagues gorged themselves on the free buffet and drinks – I sat at the back starving, thirsty and being rained on. Read more

The VW golf has been with us since 1974 and still today, South Africa produces the Chico and the Citigolf in its various forms. But there is a problem, because Germany stopped producing the original car in 1983, yet S.A. still continues to manufacture them. Essentially the Mk1 golf possesses technology from the 80’s and thus the driving experience is a bit different to what we have come accustomed to over the last decade or so. Read more

As we all know the GTi was released in 2004 and ever since has clocked up many awards for car of the year. VW has had great success with the M.k.V GTi which was a big improvement on the not so popular M.k. IV GTi. When it first appeared, it looked good, and although a bit larger than the previous generation, it had good road presence. Read more

Upon arrival at the Mazda dealership in Paulshof, we saw the Mazda 6 MPS parked in the entrance, facing the road starring down fellow road users with anger, and fury. The black car with black tinted windows and a bulging bonnet seemed to give of an aura of corrupting power and destruction. Not to hard to understand once you pry the bulging bonnet open. Read more

The Daihatsu is a light run around for the city. It is made of a lot of plastics that gives it a cheap interior look and feel, but then again it is cheap. Its sole purpose is to run backwards and forwards in traffic in the city. It has a 1.5i 16 valve engine that seems to run just fine. It seems to be a very dull car, there is nothing to get excited about. Read more

SUV’s tend to be very popular cars of today, provided you have the money, but I can understandably see why. The Pajero, however, has incorporated many luxuries of an SUV but also the off road capability of a hardened battle tank. You don’t often find SUV’s that can perform off road due to their high speed, low profile tires but the Pajero doesn’t come with these. Read more

First impressions of the small 5 door jazz are that it’s a comfortable car that will get you from A to B. The seating is comfortable, actually a rather surprising amount of space in the tiny bubble shell and the instrument displays are new and fresh. Read more

The BMW X5 has become such a common sight on our roads that it is easy to forget that this car, unveiled in 1999 as the E53 X5 (SAV) sport activity vehicle introduced a new class of motor vehicle that merged the comfort and pace of a luxury sedan with the off road ability of a dedicated bundu basher. Where do you predominantly spend most of your time in a car? On the road? Thought you did, unless you live in the outback, Iraq or the DRC. So why then buy a sport 4×4? The logic eludes me. Read more

There are many family oriented cars on our roads today which have sporting pretensions, the word ‘sport’ has been used by manufacturers so often that almost any vehicle with a set of 17 inch rims and an oversized exhaust pipe is now bestowed with this name. Read more

The BMW 328i E36 is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. This car will keep up with a golf 5 gti in johannesburg with no problem at all. This is surprising because up in Johannesburg, turbo cars will always perform better due to the lack of oxygen that starves naturally aspirated engines. Read more

Life today is all about compromise. We learn that in order to get what we want we have to sacrifice a great deal. It’s much the same with regards to cars, because if you want performance you can’t really have economy and if you want luxury you and status appeal, you can’t get it at a premium. Read more
