The new SLS AMG is to receive an internationally renowned design award, the "iF product design award 2010". The iF product design award was first presented in 1953, and ranks among the most important design awards of all. The 24-member jury chose 778 entries from around 2500 candidates in 16 categories. "This sought-after award for the new SLS AMG is a great honour for us. It also reflects the extremely positive feedback on the design of the SLS that we have been receiving since the September world premiere at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt/Main," says Prof. Gorden Wagener, Head ...
The New Polo
Design of compact Volkswagen orchestrated by Walter de Silva Visually speaking, the new Polo was developed 1:1 from the principles of the new Volkswagen “Design DNA”. The Scirocco was the first vehicle with this design and the second wave of the new DNA appeared in the new Golf. Both these cars were well received by the local customers with the new Golf being named as a finalist in the 2010 South African Guild of Motoring Journalists Car of the Year competition.
Honda CBX 250 Twister
The Honda CBX 250 Twister is branded as a commuter bike, but I think it can be much more than that if you let it take you in to it’s unique and special character. However, you’ll find that somewhat hard to do if you’re used to more powerful bikes because at the end of the day, it is a 250cc. For a 250cc single cylinder, performance is actually quite good, this four valve, DOHC, air & oil cooled motor as it produces 17.5kW of power at 8000rpm and 24Nm of torque at 6000rpm, surprising considering that the compression ratio is fairly ...
Lexus IS-F Coming to SA
The launch of the exhilarating Lexus IS-F opens a new chapter in the South African Lexus story. The luxury brand has carved a successful path for itself in SA since re-launching the brand in 2006 and continues to expand the model line-up to appeal to new markets at every turn. SA’s most satisfying car to own (according to J.D. Power and Associates), the Lexus IS250, came to SA in 2006 and quickly became known as the car that offered options as standard. The well-specced IS250 S and IS250 SE were joined by a mid grade EX model grade late last year, ...
Alfa Romeo Giulietta: Coming to SA 3rd Q
This is truly a red-letter day – the shroud of secrecy surrounding Alfa Romeo’s most highly anticipated new C-segment hatch has finally been lifted. It’s name? The Alfa Romeo Giulietta, possibly one of the most evocative names in motoring history. The all new Alfa Romeo Giulietta will be presented to the world at the forthcoming Geneva Car Show early next year. Sales of the new model will start in Europe in spring gradually be extended to all the major markets. Its South African debut is planned for the third quarter of 2010 (around October).
KTM 690 SMC
Its 5:49 on a crisp Sunday morning. The mist rises from the winding asphalt road which cuts a path through the humbling mountain range. Birds are singing amongst the trees in their usual harmonious tone. However, they are soon interrupted as a roaring thunder approaches. Suddenly the mountains awake with a trembling shudder as the new 690 SMC appears around a bend and within a few seconds, all is peaceful again.
Suzuki DR-Z400SM
The Suzuki DR-Z400SM is a single cylinder 400cc motard. It was derived from Suzuki’s DR-Z400S which is a dual purpose bike however Suzuki invested effort into their motard to make it appealing to the motard man. They didn’t just take the 400S and make cosmetic changes, instead they gave the SM 17 inch rims with sticky rubber, a motard styled front mud guard, a larger front brake and adjustable inverted Showa forks at the front teamed up with the swingarm derived from the RM250 racer.
BMW Z4 M E85
The M division at BMW is renowned for making focused, high performance, sports cars that posse’s agility as well as everyday practicality. They have fine tuned almost every car in the BMW range, from 4 door saloons to 2 door convertibles. Renault Megane Sport F1 edition 2007
The Renault Megane was a controversial car when it first came out due to its looks. Not from the front or side but from the back, with an almost vertical window and a boot that bulges out. However over time this shape has grown on me and I rather like it now. [Read more of this review] Read More →
Birel Max 125 Kart
Karting, for those of you who don’t know, doesn’t just mean a trip to Strydom Park and a fifteen minute bumper bashing session with your lawnmower powered trolley. Although this is fun, the truth is that the difference between recreational karting and professional karting is the same as being the ref for a rugby game or the loose head prop getting... Mercedes SLK 350 (R171)
Are you a driving enthusiast? Then what does this sound like to you: A light two seat sports convertible, huge cross drilled front discs and a 3.5l V6 producing 200Kw feeding a 7 speed gearbox driving the rear wheels. It sounds good to me. So then what if I say this sports car combination has electric seats that are heated, a front loader and a 6cd... [Read more of this review]
Mercedes ML320
The Mercedes ML320 was one of the first SUV’s or sports utility vehicles that Mercedes Benz built. The ML320 that I tested came with a 3.2 liter V6 petrol motor, which sounds good but it only has 215 HP. It weighs in at a staggering 2080 Kg’s also. So it has almost the same power as a decent 2 liter turbo but weighs almost twice as much, giving... [Read more of this review]
Mercedes C220 CDi (W203)
The Mercedes Benz C-class is a car that has been with us from 1993 in various shapes and forms. It’s a bit like a police officer in a tree. In other words it’s always around. Take a drive up to the shops now, and I am willing to bet money you’ll spot one. Chances are you probably know someone that either has or had one. There is a reason for... [Read more of this review]
Mercedes C270 CDi
Diesel is quite a controversial source of fuel at the moment. You get lots of kilometers per tank, a lot of torque, and a bomb proof motor, but with every smile comes a frown. You also get the noise of a farm tractor, the horrid smell and smoke out of your exhaust. And in the case of the C270, a lot of turbo lag. [Read more of this review] Read More →
Volvo S40 2nd generation
Think Volvo, and generally the first thought that appears in your mind is safety. That still remains true for the new S40 range. 6 airbags, SIPS (side impact protection system), DSTC (anti skid control), EBL (emergency brake lights), EBA (anti lock braking system with baking assist), IC (inflatable curtains), reinforced passenger compartment and WHIPS,... Nissan Sani 3.0 V6 M.K. 1
The Nissan Sani 3.0 v6 is really the rough mans car, the type of man who wakes up and combs his beard with a porcupine. The car is simple, crude but most off all indestructible, well fairly. Reason I say this is because the clutch failed on me as I was crossing a freeway intersection. The fluid leaked out of a broken seal. The engine has lost a lot... [Read more of this review]
VW Golf Chico 1.6
The VW golf has been with us since 1974 and still today, South Africa produces the Chico and the Citigolf in its various forms. But there is a problem, because Germany stopped producing the original car in 1983, yet S.A. still continues to manufacture them. Essentially the Mk1 golf possesses technology from the 80’s and thus the driving experience... [Read more of this review]
